The San Jacinto Beagle Club was organized 1961 by brace beagling enthusiasts and held its first brace field trial in 1965. It is licensed by the American Kennel Club and is associated with the National Beagle Club. The Club expanded into show activities in 1976 and held its first licensed show in 1979. Membership is open to all who own, show or just love beagles. Club members are breeders, owners and handlers who participate in field and tracking trials, conformation shows, agility and obedience competitions and people who just love their pet beagles. Meetings are held bi-monthly in Houston, Texas.

The Club sponsors two specialty shows every year. In July, the SJBC specialty is held in conjunction with the Reliant Series of Dog Shows at the Houston Reliant Center. In the Spring, the show is held in conjunction with the Houston Kennel Club show at the Farm and Ranch Club in West Houston. You can view photos of past Specialty Show winners here. Additionally, SJBC sponsors field trials in the fall of each year in the Houston area.

CONGRATULATIONS to SJBC member Caroline Dowell on her Beagle Uno's big win at the 2008 Westminster Kennel Club Show! As I'm sure you ALL know, this is the first time ever for a Beagle to be top dog at the top show and we couldn't be prouder! We've been privileged to see Uno compete at our Specialty (see photo and news item below) and we send our heartiest 'Well Done!' to all of Team Uno - Caroline and co-owners Eddie Dzuik, Jon Woodring and Kathy Weichert, breeders Kathy Weichert and Leah Bertignoli and handler Aaron Wilkerson.

2008 Summer Specialty

The annual Summer Specialty of the San Jacinto Beagle Club will be held on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the Reliant Center, Houston, Texas. Pending AKC approval, Regular Classes will be judged by Mrs. Elizabeth Pennock Friedlander of Boulder, Colorado and Regular and Veterans Sweepstakes and Junior Showmanship will be judged by Mrs. Anne L Legge, of Winchester, Virginia.
